Choosing a connector starts with the vehicle inlet. For a portable charger, a second choice is the plug that connects to the electricity supply. These two ends serve different purposes, so a matching vehicle connector does not make a product suitable for every country or circuit.
What does each name identify?
Type 1, Type 2 and NACS identify different vehicle connection systems. They describe the vehicle connection and need to be matched to the intended charging equipment. They are not interchangeable product names.
Type 2 is the starting point for our European AC product selection. Type 1 and NACS are separate options for vehicles with the corresponding inlets. Always confirm the actual vehicle, including imported vehicles, instead of relying on the country alone.
Check both ends of a portable charger
- Vehicle end: identify the inlet from the vehicle documentation.
- Supply end: identify the approved plug, socket, voltage and circuit arrangement for the destination.
- Charging current: agree a limit appropriate to the complete equipment and electrical installation.
- Documentation: check the evidence for the exact configuration being purchased.
Record the vehicle connector and supply-side plug as separate requirements. Both must be confirmed for the selected charging equipment.
Does NACS mean DC fast charging?
No. NACS is a connection system used in both AC and DC charging contexts. A portable AC charger with a NACS connector remains an AC product. The connector name alone does not establish DC capability or universal vehicle compatibility.
Is a connector and cable assembly a complete charger?
No. A connector and cable assembly is a component for charging-equipment integration. It does not replace the controls and electrical protection required in a complete charging device. It also differs from a detachable cable with vehicle and charging-station connectors at opposite ends.
What should a distributor ask for?
Send the product identifier, destination country, vehicle inlet, supply-side plug, current requirement and cable length. Ask for a configuration drawing or sample specification that makes both ends clear. For any adapter proposal, assess the exact electrical and vehicle requirements separately.
