A public charging project includes equipment, an electrical connection, a driver payment and access journey, and a service operation. Choose AC and DC equipment according to parking duration and energy needs, then validate the complete site rather than treating a charger cabinet as a finished solution.

Define six parts of the site

  1. Energy: utility capacity, building demand, any staged expansion and a site limit.
  2. Bays: circulation, cable reach, accessible use, lighting, protection from vehicle impact and service access.
  3. Charging: connector mix, cabinet and outlet ratings, allocation and compatibility.
  4. Driver journey: ad-hoc access, displayed prices, payment, receipts and support.
  5. Operations: backend, connectivity, fault handling, records and maintenance responsibilities.
  6. Acceptance: electrical checks, charging sessions, payment tests, communications recovery and documented handover.

Public access can create obligations beyond equipment documentation. In the EU, AFIR guidance addresses publicly accessible infrastructure and matters such as payment and price transparency.
