EV charging procurement for Australia
Prepare an Australian charging brief covering equipment scope, local responsible supplier, RCM evidence and site-specific electrical configuration.
On this page 3 sections
Start with the state or territory, installation type and local responsible supplier. Product scope and the final configuration matter; an overseas certificate or a logo in a catalogue does not complete the Australian compliance process.
Establish the equipment scope first
Under the EESS process, applicable in-scope electrical equipment is addressed through a responsible supplier and evidence appropriate to its classification. Registration obligations differ by equipment level. Determine the scope and classification for the actual charger or component instead of assigning every EV product the same level. See the EESS steps for compliance.
Ask the local partner to identify the responsible supplier, applicable equipment records, conformity evidence, marking and instructions. Confirm the requirements for the destination jurisdiction and whether the intended household, similar or commercial application changes the review.
Include communications in the document review
A charger with wireless or other communications functions may require additional EMC/radio evidence. Review those obligations with the Australian responsible party alongside electrical safety. ACMA’s responsible supplier guidance explains its registration process. One registration entry should not be treated as evidence that every configuration has been evaluated.
Specify the complete charging arrangement
- Vehicle inlet and AC or DC use; confirm the connector for the actual fleet.
- Supply voltage, available phases and site capacity, checked by the installer.
- Portable input plug, current limit and cable requirements.
- Outdoor exposure, temperature, mounting and cable reach.
- Number of bays, access control, connectivity and local power management.
Use AC power selection for the initial vehicle/site comparison and DC power selection for project charging requirements. The selected Ampvoya configuration and its Australian document set remain subject to verification before an order.
